Twincities.com is reporting that the Minnesota Twins have received a favorable offer from the Boston Red Sox for starting pitcher Johan Sanatana. And this offer has placed the Red Sox in position to be considered the favorites to obtain Santana's services pending a negotiating period to extend Santana's current contract.
The Red Sox reportedly are offering centerfielder Coco Crisp, starting pitcher John Lester, infield prospect Jed Lowrie as well as pitching prospect Justin Masterson. Before the deal would be complete the Red Sox would have to successfully negotiate a contract extension for the 28 year old Santana. The pitcher is possibly looking for a six-year $150 million deal. MLB Comissioner Bud Selig would have to approve a 24, 48 or 72 hour negotiating period between the Red Sox and Santana. However, that move by Selig is expected to be a formality if a trade between the two teams is in place.
ESPN's Buster Onley confirmed the Red Sox and Twins are talking about a four players deal. However, his sources indicate that Michael Bowden is the fourth name being discussed as opposed to Justin masterson. Yet he does state that the fourth player's name is in flux at the moment.
